Senior Driver Assessments (SDA)

Throughout Australia, drivers who are 75 or 80 years or older must undergo an annual medical assessment conducted by their doctor to retain their driver’s license. The aim of this assessment is to guarantee that older drivers can continue driving safely and confidently on the road, while considering any age-related health conditions that could affect their driving abilities. By completing these assessments, senior drivers can show their dedication to road safety and maintain their driving privileges. It also ensures that older drivers can continue to enjoy the independence and freedom that comes with driving while keeping themselves and others safe.

  • If you belong to this category, your general practitioner (GP) may request you to take a driving assessment before granting your medical certificate. The primary objective of the assessment is to evaluate your driving abilities and ensure that you can continue driving safely on the road, notwithstanding any age-related health conditions that may affect your performance. By taking these assessments, you can demonstrate your dedication to road safety and guarantee that you can sustain your driving privileges. These assessments can also help identify any areas that may require improvement, and provide necessary guidance to help you become a better and safer driver.

What is A Senior Driver Assessment?

A Senior Driver Assessment is an evaluation of your driving skills and performance, administered by a licensed driving assessor who is a Registered Driving School with Senior Driver Assessments (SDA). These assessments are usually conducted on the streets that you frequently drive on, starting from your home.

The driving assessor will arrive at your home to pick you up and take you on a test drive. During the assessment, the assessor will carefully observe your driving and may ask questions to gain a better understanding of your abilities. They will then submit the assessment report, which will be submitted online to your GP. You will also be provided with a copy of the report for your own records.

Once the assessment is complete, the driving assessor will return you to your starting location. At Senior Driver Assessments, we recognize the significance of ensuring that you can continue to drive safely and confidently on the road. Our assessments are tailored to help you achieve that goal, by identifying any areas that may require improvement and providing the necessary guidance to help you become a better and safer driver.
